Feds win large health fraud settlement for heart device

Nine Florida hospitals are involved in a Medicare fraud settlement for more than 250 million dollars over improper billing for cardiac defibrillation implants. The case began seven years ago when two whistleblowers in southern Florida claimed that hospitals had been billing Medicare for implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) in patients who did not meet the medical guidelines for coverage.
